Spring 2011 Civic Engagement Fund recipients announced
Recently, Tisch College announced the Spring 2011 recipients of the Civic Engagement Fund (CEF). Open to all Tufts students, CEF provides advising support and seed funding for innovative active citizenship projects. more
Tufts Neighborhood Service Fund announces grants to 34 community organizations
The Tufts Neighborhood Service Fund (TNSF) committee recently awarded grants to 34 organizations in its host communities of Somerville, Medford, Boston’s Chinatown and Grafton. TNSF collects donations from university employees throughout the year and then awards grants to community-based, charitable organizations that serve Tufts’ host communities and that actively engage Tufts volunteers in their work.
Professor John Gaventa to receive Tisch Civic Engagement Research Prize
Tisch College is pleased to announce that political sociologist John Gaventa will be recognized with the 2011 Tisch Civic Engagement Research Prize. Gaventa will accept the award and deliver a public lecture on his work on April 14, 2011 at Tisch College. more

A Tale of Two Cities: comparing the best and worst cities for civic engagement
Peter Levine, Tisch College Director of Research and Director of CIRCLE, and Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, CIRCLE Lead Researcher, were two of several co-authors of a new report released on January 24 by the National Conference on Citizenship and its Florida and Minnesota partners.
According to Tale of Two Cities: Civic Heath in Miami and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Miami is the least civically engaged major city in the country, and Minneapolis-St. Paul is the most engaged metropolitan area. more

On Friday, April 8th, our daylong conference, The Roles of Active Citizens in Improving Education, will explore the many ways individuals can effectively engage in this critical national challenge. This gathering is designed for everyone: students and parents, teachers and school board members, social entrepreneurs and volunteers.
On Saturday, April 9th, we will celebrate the remarkable contributions Tufts alumni make as active citizens. Alumni from all Tufts schools will share their innovative ideas and initiatives for social change. Attendees will leave inspired and equipped with valuable tools and connections.
