Tisch College hosts inaugural Alan D Solomont Lecture featuring Nancy Pelosi

Over 600 students, alumni and faculty packed Cohen Auditorium to see Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives and former Speaker of the House, reflect on her career and the importance of public service.

The inaugural Alan D. Solomont Lecture, organized as part of Tisch College’s 10 year anniversary, is named in honor of Alan D. Solomont, ambassador to Spain and Andorra; entrepreneur, philanthropist and political activist; and Tisch College founding board chairperson, Tufts alumnus and trustee emeritus.

“Today we are here under the auspices of Tisch College, which is dedicated to developing dynamic leaders,” Leader Pelosi commented.  “I’m so pleased to be here under that auspices and I congratulate the college on its 10th anniversary.”

Following Leader Pelosi’s remarks, she joined ambassador Solomont in a discussion about civic engagement and politics.

The two were then joined by Tomas Valdes, A11, who asked Leader Pelosi questions which had been submitted by members of the Tufts community.  A senior majoring in political science and minoring in economics, Valdes is a Tisch Scholar for Citizenship and Public Service; Vice President of the Tufts Community Union Senate, the Tufts student government; and was a finalist for Tufts’ prestigious Wendell Phillips Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes students who have demonstrated a marked ability as a speaker and a high sense of public responsibility.
