The Carol R. Goldberg Seminar is a periodic convening of local business, government, academic, civic, and community leaders that raises awareness about critical civic issues and offers a roadmap by which leaders might achieve progress against those issues. Launched in the 1980s by Carol R. Goldberg, President of the AVCAR Group, Ltd., in collaboration with the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service, the Seminar has a proud history of acting as a catalyst for important civic initiatives.
The Goldberg Seminars are a cross-sector community planning project that, to date, has elevated community action on pressing challenges such as revitalizing Boston's parks and open spaces, broadening access to primary health care and strengthening university-community partnerships.
A Boston Foundation report stated, “Rarely is the word ‘seminar’ seen next to the word ‘action’, but that is exactly what the Carol R. Goldberg Seminars have resulted in, every time. … One of the most successful seminars resulted in a nationally–recognized blueprint for open space that led to a dramatic turnaround of Boston parks. The most recent seminar, in 2005, released a groundbreaking report on the role and impact of higher education institutions in Greater Boston.” The seminars will continue to be a collaboration of Tisch College and The Boston Foundation.
