Volunteer with the Asperger's Association of New England
The Asperger's Association of New England (AANE) has a variety of volunteer opportunities available.  Relying heavily on volunteers to help run the organization at all levels, they currently have 50 long-term volunteers and many more periodic helpers. Volunteering on-site at AANE is particularly rewarding for many people, offering the opportunity to mingle and socialize with other people within the AS community in a supportive, understanding environment. Anyone can be a volunteer. Volunteers stuff envelopes, collate information packets, write for our journal, meet with newcomers, help with our Gala, and co-facilitate social groups. AANE will be glad to find a job that matches a volunteers availability, skills and interests.Some jobs are at our office in Watertown, but we also welcome people throughout New England to work at our various chapters. Intern at The Public Interest Network
The Public Interest Network is a family of organizations including Environment America, U.S. PIRG, the Student PIRGS, Green Corps and the Toxics Action Center. The Network employs over 500 organizers, advocates, attorneys, and researchers. This fall we are launching an activist training center. The basic idea is to plan citizen activist trainings in key cities across the country. Each weekend, the training will move to another city where we will turn out progressive minded citizens to get training in nuts and bolts of grassroots organizing skills. We are looking for an person to fill our Outreach Internship position who is serious about saving the planet, have a desire to strengthen and grow the progressive movement, and have demonstrated leadership experience. Intern responsibilities include: Coalition Outreach, Media Work, Volunteer Outreach, Marketing and Message Development. Interns work between 20-40 hours/week and the level of commitment is tailored to your schedule. Internship are unpaid, but interns are given the opportunity to audit portions of the training, which feature training from top social change leaders in organizing, advocacy, and leadership skills. Work at The Welcome Project
The Welcome Project is looking for a Communications/Development Assistant! This is a great opportunity for Tufts students who are interested in non-profit work, supporting Somerville's immigrant communities, and making a difference. The Communications/Development Assistant will work with staff to develop communications to keep the organization's supporters and donors up to date with program activities. Depending on the skills of the candidate, this could include helping to write newsletter articles, taking photographs, developing email updates, assisting with web content and/or design, and helping to coordinate appeal letters and follow up thank you's. Job Requirements: Excellent written and oral communication skills; attention to detail; proficient in word/excel; interest in non-profit organizations. Intern at the University of the Middle East Project
The University of the Middle East Project (UME) is seeking interns for Fall 2009. UME is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization promoting educational leadership for critical thinking, open inquiry, cross-cultural understanding and regional cooperation. UME seeks to empower the most motivated and progressive secondary school teachers of the Middle East, North Africa (MENA), the US and Europe through teacher training, leadership and organizational skills. Over the past twelve years, UMEP has established a serious and credible record with 29 academic programs in the US, Spain, Morocco, Jordan, and Lebanon that has benefited over 300 educators and community leaders in the Middle East and North Africa, over 100 American participants, and 13 European educators. Intern at the Best Shot Foundation
The Best Shot Foundation, a new non-profit organization, is looking for outstanding candidates to be Regional Campus Organizers for the first "Pnock-Out Pneumonia Dodgeball Tournament" that will take place this upcoming November. Regional Tournament Organizers will receive hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, fundraising, and advocacy. His/her primary role will be to organize a local dodgeball tournament and support participating teams as they raise funds for the fight against childhood pneumonia. Intern at Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation
Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation is a community based organization located in the Uphams Corner area of Dorchester. Dorchester Bay was established in 1979 to revive the neighborhood and has since focused on building affordable housing, business development, and community organizing. Its goal is to give teens the knowledge, skills and motivation they need to create concrete, grassroots change in their community. Youth force meets Monday-Thursday, 3-6 in Uphasms Corner- 594 Columbia Rd. Intern would have to commit to at least two days per week and should have some experience working with teenagers. Volunteer at the Oak Street Youth Center
The Oak Street Youth Center in Boston Chinatown is looking for committed, compassionate, and cheerful volunteers to be tutors and mentors for our youth. We are looking for people who can commit 3 to 8 hours per week, can commit to a whole school year or at least a semester, attend trainings and meetings once a month, have experience or a desire to work with Asian youth, want to help youth learn English and improve their grades, and can be a positive role model for youth. If you can commit 8 hours a week and want to be a Homework Help Tutor, we have a $1,875 stipend available through the Commonwealth Corps service program for 4 members who can commit to at least 300 hours of service. Volunteer at the Clark Avenue Middle School
The Clark Avenue Middle School, a public middle school serving grades 5-8 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, is seeking tutors for a few ot its academically struggling students for the 2009-2010 school year. As part of our commitment to early drop-out intervention and prevention, we are seeking university students and/or professionals who want to help make a difference in an urban community and diverse public school. We are looking for as little as one hour per week beginning in September 2009. Tutors will work 1:1 with students who have experienced failure academically and need extra support to feel motivated and engaged in school again. Tutors will be supervised and supported by the Guidance Counselor at the school. CORI will be required. Volunteer with Centro Latino, Inc.
As a community organization founded and managed by Latinos, Centro Latino's broad goal is to assist Latino individuals to develop their highest potential, improve their living conditions, and build a better future. We offer our volunteers 12-15 hours of training. Spanish Bilingual skills are only required for the Spanish GED opportunity. Our most pressing needs for volunteers are in our Chelsea and Cambridge sites for individual tutors and classroom assistants working with small groups of 2-4 students aimed at reinforcing several courses: GED Spanish preparation, Native Spanish Literacy and our Basic, Beginniner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Blue Kitabu Research in Education Fellowship
Blue Kitabu invites you to apply for the January 2010 Research in Education Fellowship in Ghana. The purpose of this fellowship is to allow individuals who have an interest in or who currently work in education to gain insight into teacher professional development and education overall in Ghana. If chosen as a fellow, you will be guided in choosing a research topic before arriving in Ghana and will conduct on the ground, local research into your topic. At the end of the fellowship, you will present your findings in a symposium, which will contribute to Blue Kitabu's education programs in Ghana. Download application here . Green Corps 2010-2011 Field School for Environmental Organizing
Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day. In Green Corps’ year-long paid program, you’ll get intensive training in the skills you’ll need to make a difference in the world. You’ll get hands-on experience fighting to solve urgent environmental problems — global warming, deforestation, water pollution and many others — with groups such as Sierra Club and Greenpeace. And, when you graduate from Green Corps, we’ll help you find a career with one of the nation’s leading environmental and social change groups. Green Corps' year-long program begins in August 2010 with Introductory Classroom Training in Boston, and continues with field placements in multiple locations across the U.S. Candidates must be willing to relocate. Two citizen alumni and former Tufts lacrosse players – Dr. Sarah Richardson (A'88, D'93), a dentist, and Jessica MacLellan (A'98), a lacrosse coach – joined forces to provide a high school lacrosse team with free customized mouth guards.
